The Withered Bloom

$24.00

Not every flower is meant to be preserved in its first bloom.

Some are left to wither upon the stem, their petals darkening and folding inward until something quieter and more enduring remains.

This old silver-toned bowl has taken on much the same appearance. Its deeply scalloped sides open like the petals of a flower, each one worn and darkened by the passage of time. What was once bright metal has settled into shades of charcoal, tarnished silver, and the faintest traces of color beneath its aged surface.

There is a certain beauty in the things that have been allowed to grow old without apology.

I imagine this piece upon a narrow kitchen shelf, holding the last gatherings of a garden, or resting beside a window where the afternoon light might find its worn edges.

Its shape is simple, almost primitive, yet there is something deeply ornamental in the way the metal folds around itself.

A lovely vessel for dried flowers, gathered herbs, old keepsakes, or the small offerings of an ordinary day.

Dimensions:

Length: 15”

Width: 11”

Condition: Vintage, with light patina, tarnish, scratches, discoloration, and surface wear. A visible patch of residue or finish loss remains in the center. Sold in its found condition, with its age undisturbed. Metal composition and maker unverified.
