The Antique Anatomy Tarot | Claire Goodchild
In the old anatomical books, the human body was laid bare in the pursuit of understanding. Bones were carefully illustrated, organs preserved in ink, and the delicate structures of life studied with an almost religious devotion.
The Antique Anatomy Tarot, created by Claire Goodchild, draws upon this forgotten visual language, bringing together the study of human anatomy, botanical illustration, and the ancient symbolism of the tarot.
Across seventy-eight cards, skeletal remains and flowering plants inhabit the same delicate compositions. Bones are entwined with roots and blossoms, suggesting the inseparable nature of life and death, growth and decay. There is something deeply reverent in these images, as though each were a small specimen gathered from the cabinet of an old physician.
Accompanied by an illustrated guidebook, this gently used deck invites the reader to examine the inner workings of the self through the familiar archetypes of the tarot.
A beautiful addition to the study, the apothecary shelf, or the collection of those who find meaning in the mortal and the botanical.
