The Forgotten Orchard

$28.00

Vintage Floral Tray

There is something sorrowful about the last fruit of the season. The branches grow bare, the flowers fall away, and what remains is gathered and carried indoors.

This old metal tray bears a small orchard upon its surface. Fruit hangs among delicate leaves and blossoms, pressed into the metal as though someone wished to preserve the garden long after its season had passed.

Its oval body is bordered by a softly hammered edge, with two worn handles that speak of an older, simpler kind of household work. The surface has dulled with age, carrying scratches, darkened places, and the quiet evidence of years spent in use.

I imagine it resting upon an old kitchen table, holding the day’s gathering, a few cuttings from the garden, or something prepared by hand for those coming home.

There is a primitive beauty in its construction. Nothing elaborate beyond the flowers and fruit, nothing asking to be made new again.

A lovely piece for gathering dried herbs, keeping small household treasures, or resting among the old books and earthly remnants of a lived-in home.

Dimensions:

Length: 17.5”

Width: 11”

Condition: Vintage, with visible scratches, patina, discoloration, and wear consistent with age. Preserved in its found condition. Metal composition and maker unverified.
