Black Earthen Vessel
There is something ancient in the shape of this vessel. Its rounded belly, narrow neck, and two heavy handles recall the earthen jars once kept in kitchens, cellars, and storerooms, where ordinary things were preserved and passed from one season to the next.
Made of dark pottery with a nearly black, matte finish, this vessel has a quiet, primitive beauty. Its surface bears small scratches and irregularities, giving it the appearance of something unearthed rather than newly made.
I imagine it standing on an old wooden shelf, holding the last dried stems of summer, or sitting empty beside a hearth, its dark mouth open to the room.
A simple object, solemn in its shape, asking for very little. A place to rest, a little dust, and another life in someone else’s home.
Dimensions:
Weight: 4 lbs
Height: 9.5”
Width: 8”
Condition: Pre-owned condition with visible surface scratches, scuffs, and variations in the finish. Age and origin unknown. Intended for decorative use.
